PA Licensure and Compact Status in Florida

Florida has not enacted the PA Licensure Compact, so a separate Florida licence is the only route. Here is what it requires, and how long it takes.

Concierge support for Florida — eligibility screening through issued authorization.

Florida Is Not a PA Compact State

Florida has not enacted the PA Licensure Compact, and no implementation is pending. The compact offers nothing here in either direction: when privileges begin in 2027 they will not reach Florida, and — the part that catches people — a Florida license will not qualify you for privileges anywhere else either. If Florida is the only state you are licensed in, you will have no route into the compact at all when it opens. That is worth knowing now rather than in 2027, because the fix is a license in a member state, and licenses take months. Practising in Florida requires a Florida license, full stop.

Compact status changes with legislative sessions and Commission votes. Confirm current membership with the PA Compact Commission before relying on it — this page reflects our last verification, not a live feed.

Estimated Timeline

Commonly two to four months from a complete filing, and longer wherever a background check or a prior-licence verification has to be chased. Confirm current processing times with the board.

There is no compact route into Florida and none is pending. A full licence application is the only option.

If you are choosing between states, compact membership is worth weighing — a licence in a member state will do more for you from 2027 onward.

Physician assistants in Florida are licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine, which sets its own application, fees and processing times. Every state requires current NCCPA certification and a degree from an ARC-PA accredited programme; what varies is the supervision or collaboration agreement, the prescriptive authority granted, and how long the board takes. Florida has not enacted the PA Licensure Compact. Even once privileges open in 2027, a separate Florida licence will be the only route to practising here.
