Tennessee Charges 35 Up Front, in Three Separate Pieces

A 5 application fee, a 50 initial licensure fee and a 0 state regulatory fee. Quoted as one number it looks steep; understood as three it explains itself.

Abstract illustration of one long bar composed of three clearly divided segments of different sizes.

Tennessee sets its physician assistant fees in Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 1130-01-.06, and the total is assembled from parts.

The breakdown

A 5 application fee, a 50 initial licensure fee, and a 0 state regulatory fee — 35 in total. Biennial renewal is 75 plus the 0 regulatory fee. Temporary licensure is 0. Late renewal is 0.

Why the structure matters

Because the pieces are not always charged together. Application and licensure fees can fall at different points in the process, which means the 35 is not necessarily one payment on one day. For anyone forecasting cash flow across several licenses, that distinction is worth having.

The regulatory fee is a small statutory addition that appears on both application and renewal. It is trivial in amount and easy to miss when reconciling what you were charged against what you expected.

A note on where the rules live

Tennessee moved its physician assistant rules from Chapter 0880-03 to Chapter 1130-01 in 2021. Older references still point at the retired chapter, which is a good illustration of why a citation without a date is unreliable — the rule was not repealed, it moved.

Compact position

Tennessee is a member state. Once privileges open, a Tennessee license will qualify you for privileges across the membership, which changes the return on that 35.
