The comparison
Against member states, that is the top of the range. Missouri licenses at 8. Illinois applies at 0. Washington’s application is 0 before surcharges. Ohio is roughly eight times the cheapest and comfortably above the middle.
What the fee buys
Two things worth separating. First, access to a large employment market — Ohio employs a substantial number of PAs and the license is worth holding on that basis alone.
Second, and more interesting from 2027: Ohio is a compact member. Once privileges open, an Ohio license becomes a qualifying license for privileges across every other member state. A 00 application that unlocks a membership is a different proposition from a 00 application that unlocks one state.
The honest counterpoint
If you want a member-state license purely as a compact entry point and have no intention of working in the state, Ohio is an expensive way to buy one. Missouri at 8 or Illinois at 0 does the same job for a fraction, and both are members.
That calculus only holds if you genuinely do not need the market. If Ohio is where the work is, the fee is a rounding error against a salary and the membership is a bonus.
