Florida’s Prescribing Authority Fee, and the Discount That Expires

Florida sets PA fees in administrative code, including a prescribing-authority renewal that has been running at a fraction of its stated amount. That reduction has an end date.

Florida publishes its physician assistant fees in rule — Fla. Admin. Code R. 64B8-30.019 — which makes them unusually easy to verify and unusually easy to misread.

The schedule

A 00 application fee and a 00 initial licensure fee. Biennial renewal is 75. There is a unlicensed activity fee. And prescribing authority carries its own biennial renewal of 50.

The reduction

That 50 prescribing renewal has been reduced to 0 through 31 January 2026 under the same rule. A fifteen-fold difference, written into the code with an expiry date attached.

Which is a useful illustration of why a fee figure without a date is close to useless. A PA who budgeted from a source that captured the reduced amount, and renews after it lapses, is out by 40 on a line they thought was settled.

What to take from it

Check the rule, not a summary, and check the date the reduction runs to. Florida is one of the states where the primary source is genuinely accessible — the administrative code is published and searchable, and the fee section is short.

The compact position

Florida has not enacted the PA Licensure Compact. It is among the largest PA markets in the country, and a Florida license will not qualify you for privileges elsewhere.

Fee schedules change. These figures reflect our last verification of the rule, and the rule itself is the authority.
