That reduction has an end date written into the rule, and budgeting from the discounted figure will be wrong afterward.
Florida is one of the more transparent states on fees, which makes it a useful example of something people get wrong everywhere: a temporary reduction is not the number to plan with.
What the rule sets
Fla. Admin. Code 64B8-30.019 itemizes it. $100 to apply. Two hundred for initial licensure. Two hundred and seventy-five to renew biennially. A $5 unlicensed activity fee that funds enforcement against people practicing without a license.
And separately, a prescribing authority renewal of $150, biennial.
The discount, and its expiry
That prescribing authority renewal has been running at $10 rather than a hundred and fifty. The reduction is written into the same rule, and it carries an end date of 31 January 2026.
Which means anyone who renewed during the discount window and remembers "prescribing authority costs $10" is carrying a figure that is short by a hundred and forty. Not enormous money, but it is the kind of small surprise that arrives alongside a $275 renewal in the same cycle.
Why fee reductions expire
Regulatory fees are supposed to fund regulation. When a board’s fund runs a surplus, states frequently reduce fees temporarily rather than permanently, because the surplus is temporary too. Florida does this across several professions.
So the reduction is not a sign the fee is trending down. It is a sign the fund was over-collected, and the base amount in the rule is the amount that comes back.
What this means for planning
Budget against the rule, not against your last receipt. The rule is public, citable and unambiguous, which is more than can be said for most states — Wisconsin delegates the amount to a department order, Arkansas points at a schedule published elsewhere, and Michigan does not publish its initial application fee in retrievable form at all.
Florida telling you the real number, with the temporary reduction and its expiry date attached, is the state being unusually honest.
Florida is outside the compact
Worth noting alongside the fees, because Florida is a large PA market. It has not enacted the PA Licensure Compact. No privilege will reach it, and a Florida license will not qualify you for privileges anywhere else.
A PA whose only license is Florida has no route into the compact without adding a member-state license first. That is a bigger number than any fee on this page.
